Confessions of a Biggest Loser

Jeffrey Levine M.D. was the speaker at this lecture.  He is a Family Physician as I am,  and he had gained an incredible amount of weight during residency and medical school and continued as he was in practice.  This I can totally relate to as I gained up to 104 lbs since medical school as well and have since lost most of it.  Dr. Levine was an extremely captivating speaker and very motivating.  I was so pumped up after his talk that I walked the half hour to my hotel as opposed to taking the shuttle.

Some of his main points or lessons he learned was

- Don't deny , starve or punish yourself- substitute healthier alternatives for the same thing.

- Exercise is extremely important both cardio and strength training.  During his show he was exercising for 4 or 5 hrs a day along with a personal trainer.  That of course is not practical for most of us, however the closer we can get to this, we will do better.

- Get good sleep and keep good sleep habits.

- Make reasonable regimens and schedules and stick to it.

- Reduce stress through relaxation and exercise , not food !!

*** The most important thing he said he learned from the whole experience was to make time for yourself !!!!

Other key things he expressed at the lecture is when your trying to get your children to eat healthy-- lead them by example - if you eat healthy and exercise they will be more likely to also.

Invest time in preparing meals (don't be a short order cook)

Invest in sports and physical activities.

Make fresh cold water easily accessible.

For that matter , make healthy snacks easily accessible.

Other tips he said-

-Eat whole grain foods.

-Vary your Veggies

-Focus on Fruits.

-Calcium rich foods.

-Go lean with protein.

-Dont sugar coat it.

-Drink lots of water.
